The European Certificate of Conformity (COC)

It is required to register an imported vehicle when the foreign registration document is not enough: no European approval number (field K) or no type-variant-version (field D.2), a vehicle coming from outside the European Union, or a vehicle that was never registered.

If your foreign registration document carries both fields in full, a COC is not always required. We would rather tell you: a free VIN check beats an unnecessary order.

The electronic Certificate of Conformity (eCoC) is a data exchange between manufacturers and approval authorities, set out in Regulation (EU) 2018/858 and its implementing regulations 2021/133 and 2024/1061. It concerns new vehicles and does not replace the document an owner receives: that remains a COC, which we deliver as a digital copy by e-mail and, on request, as a paper original.
