Why do you need a certificate of conformity for your Lexus?
If you bought your Lexus in another European Union country, the Lexus certificate of conformity is required to register it. It proves the vehicle conforms to the type approved by Lexus at European level.

Lexus is Toyota’s premium arm and benefits from the same European approval channel, which makes recent files quick and predictable — NX, RX and UX generally raise no difficulty.
The point to watch concerns older models. Lexus long had a limited European network, and a share of the IS, GS and LS models circulating on the continent were imported from Japan outside the official network. Those vehicles have no European type approval: the manufacturer has nothing to issue, whichever provider is asked. The VIN settles it in seconds, before any payment.
The frequent file is a hybrid NX or RX bought in Germany or the Netherlands from a professional, with a clear history and a quick answer from the manufacturer. Those requests raise no difficulty. The delicate case is the older model — IS, GS, LS — bought from a private seller, often by an enthusiast. On those vehicles our first check is origin: a significant share were imported from Japan outside the official network and therefore have no European approval at all. The VIN says so in seconds. We answer you before invoicing anything, even if that means telling you there is no certificate to obtain. That is more useful than a file opened for nothing.

Where to find the chassis number (VIN) on a Lexus
A certificate covers one vehicle only, identified by its chassis number (VIN). The safest place to read it is field E of the foreign registration document. On a Lexus, it also appears:
- at the base of the windscreen, driver’s side, readable from outside
- on the manufacturer’s plate on the driver’s door pillar
- copied into the service book
A VIN never contains the letters I, O or Q: mistaking one for a 1 or a 0 is enough to send the search astray.

What to watch out for on an imported Lexus
Japanese-market versions not approved in Europe
Some Lexus vehicles on European roads are Japanese domestic-market versions imported outside the official network. They have no European type approval and no certificate can be issued. The VIN settles it immediately.
Vehicle originally sold outside the EU
A Lexus sold new outside the EU has no European certificate, even where the model exists here: the manufacturer has nothing to issue and the case falls under individual vehicle approval. Send us the VIN before paying anything — the check is free.
Equipment specific to the country of sale
A Lexus sold from Germany and from Belgium does not always carry the same equipment or the same tyre sizes as elsewhere. The certificate reflects the vehicle’s actual configuration, not your local brochure.
Lexus and the eCOC: what changes in 2026
Since 5 July 2026, Lexus has been sending conformity data for its new vehicles to the approval authorities in eCOC format.
