Why do you need a certificate of conformity for your Jaguar?
If you bought your Jaguar in another European Union country, the Jaguar certificate of conformity is required to register it. It proves the vehicle conforms to the type approved by Jaguar at European level.

Jaguar is going through a transition that has sharply reduced its combustion range. The used market is still fed by recent XE, XF and F-Pace models, for which type-approval data is accessible.
As with Land Rover, British production means checking the country and date of first registration before qualifying the file: a vehicle registered in the United Kingdom after 1 January 2021 does not follow the same procedure as one sold new in Belgium or the Netherlands. The fully electric I-Pace adds the question of battery data, which some authorities require and which does not always appear on the certificate.
The frequent file is an XE, XF or F-Pace bought in Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands, with accessible type-approval data and a channel that goes through the importer. The turnaround is reasonable but less predictable than at a volume manufacturer. On a Jaguar our first check mirrors the one we run on Land Rover: the country and date of first registration, which decide the applicable regime since Brexit. On the I-Pace we also ask whether your authority requires the battery data, which is not on every certificate. Asking those two questions at the outset heads off almost every file that would otherwise drag on.
For a Jaguar, the request usually goes through the national importer of the country of first registration: one more link in the chain, so a longer turnaround.
Where to find the chassis number (VIN) on a Jaguar
A certificate covers one vehicle only, identified by its chassis number (VIN). The safest place to read it is field E of the foreign registration document. On a Jaguar, it also appears:
- at the base of the windscreen, driver’s side, readable from outside
- on the manufacturer’s plate on the driver’s door pillar
- copied into the service book
A VIN never contains the letters I, O or Q: mistaking one for a 1 or a 0 is enough to send the search astray.

What to watch out for on an imported Jaguar
Vehicle coming from the United Kingdom
Since Brexit the UK is a third country: a Jaguar first registered there after 1 January 2021 counts as a non-EU import, with separate customs formalities. The certificate can still be requested if the vehicle was type-approved to European standards.
Range reduced or withdrawn from Europe
Jaguar has scaled back its European presence. Type-approval data remains accessible but goes through a smaller organisation: longer turnaround and a less predictable answer on older models.
Grey-market version
Some Jaguar vehicles were built for a non-EU market and later re-imported. Their approval is not European, the VIN reveals it, and the manufacturer will refuse to issue a certificate. We check this systematically before quoting.
Jaguar and the eCOC: what changes in 2026
Since 5 July 2026, Jaguar has been sending conformity data for its new vehicles to the approval authorities in eCOC format.
