Why do you need a certificate of conformity for your Peugeot?
If you bought your Peugeot in another European Union country, the Peugeot certificate of conformity is required to register it. It proves the vehicle conforms to the type approved by Peugeot at European level.

Peugeot sells commercial derivatives in volume — Partner, Expert, Boxer — and that is where the difficulties concentrate. Each exists as a panel van, a glazed version or a crew cab, with different wheelbases and weights.
Depending on the version, a Boxer can be approved well beyond 3.5 tonnes, which moves the vehicle into category N2 and changes the licence required, the applicable speed limits and the roadworthiness testing regime. The gross vehicle weight is in field F.2 of the registration document: check it before buying, not afterwards. On the passenger cars — 208, 3008, 508 — the procedure is entirely routine.
The trickiest file is not a 208 but a Boxer bought to be converted, or already converted. The buyer thinks in terms of “van” whereas the authority thinks in terms of category and gross weight, and the two do not always coincide. On a Peugeot commercial vehicle we therefore ask first for the gross vehicle weight, in field F.2 of the foreign document. Above 3.5 tonnes the licence required and the roadworthiness regime both change. We then check whether a body builder was involved: in that case Peugeot documents the base vehicle only. On passenger cars the group channel is direct and the file presents no particular difficulty.

Where to find the chassis number (VIN) on a Peugeot
A certificate covers one vehicle only, identified by its chassis number (VIN). The safest place to read it is field E of the foreign registration document. On a Peugeot, it also appears:
- at the base of the windscreen, driver’s side, readable from outside
- on the manufacturer’s plate on the driver’s door pillar
- stamped under the bonnet, on the front crossmember
- copied into the service book
A VIN never contains the letters I, O or Q: mistaking one for a 1 or a 0 is enough to send the search astray.

What to watch out for on an imported Peugeot
Gross weight and driving licence category
Depending on the version, a Peugeot can exceed 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight and move into category N2: licence required, speed limits and roadworthiness regime all change. The weight is in field F.2 of the registration document.
Bodywork or multi-stage conversion
Motorhome, refrigerated box, tipper, ambulance: approval was granted in several stages. Peugeot then issues the certificate for the base chassis only; the conversion document comes from the body builder and must be requested from them.
“Company” derivative or car-derived van
Some Peugeot vehicles were sold as stripped-out commercial versions for local tax reasons, notably from France and from Belgium. The certificate then shows category N1 and a reduced number of seats, which cannot be freely converted back.
Peugeot and the eCOC: what changes in 2026
Since 5 July 2026, Peugeot has been sending conformity data for its new vehicles to the approval authorities in eCOC format.
