Which documents or information do I need to provide?
Three pieces of information are enough: the brand, the 17-character VIN and the country of registration. A copy of the foreign registration certificate is useful but not compulsory: it lets us check the VIN and the date of first registration for consistency before we approach the manufacturer.

The manufacturer finds your vehicle from the VIN alone (vehicle identification number, field E of the registration certificate). No proof of purchase or ID is required for the request itself.
We do recommend attaching, or having in front of you:
- the foreign registration certificate (both sides): it carries the VIN, the date of first registration (field B) and often the EU type-approval number (field K);
- the date of first registration, which lets us anticipate the ten-year rule;
- for a van or motorhome, a photo of the manufacturer’s plate and of the converter’s plate if there is one.
If field K and the full type-variant-version (D.2) appear on the foreign registration document, the certificate is not always required by the registration authority: we tell you before you pay.
