What is the difference between COC and eCoC? Can I order an eCoC?
The eCoC is the electronic version of the certificate that the manufacturer transmits to the approval authorities for new vehicles produced from 5 July 2026. A private owner neither orders nor receives it. For an imported used vehicle, the document to obtain remains the COC, delivered as a digital copy and then on paper.

The COC is the manufacturer’s certificate handed to the vehicle owner. The eCoC (electronic certificate of conformity) is its structured-data twin: a signed file the manufacturer makes available to the approval and registration authorities, provided for by Articles 36 and 37 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858 and Implementing Regulations (EU) 2021/133 and 2024/1061.
Three things to remember:
- the eCoC only concerns new vehicles produced from 5 July 2026, in categories M, N and O; it does not exist for a vehicle produced earlier;
- the electronic channel runs from the manufacturer to the authorities: it is not a document a private person orders or downloads;
- the duplicate owed to the owner remains, under Article 36, a paper document, which we deliver first as a digital PDF copy and then as the original if you wish.
